In the wake of Cyberpunk 2077’s catastrophic launch, attention has predominantly been focused on the need for bug-fixes, and rightly so. However, it seems that CD Projekt Red hasn’t completely put their DLC plans on hold. In fact, fans might see the first free DLC come to Cyberpunk 2077 relatively soon.
Free Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Might be Coming Soon
In the past, representatives of CD Projekt Red have generally shied away from commenting specifically on potential DLC plans. However, following the game’s launch, studio president Adam KiciĆski reportedly stated during a company meeting that it was; “too early to judge,” how the studio would proceed with their DLC/multiplayer plans. After all, the studio is clearly focusing its attention at present on bug-fixing.
Prior to all this, however, CD Projekt Red had planned to reveal the first details about Cyberpunk 2077 DLC at the end of last year. This planned reveal was delayed just prior to the game’s launch. It seems that it may resurface sooner than expected though, as the studio recently updated the game’s official website. Included in the new content is a recommendation that players; “stay tuned for more info,” and that; “free DLC starts hitting Night City early 2021.”
It’s important to note that this is a recent, post-launch wording change, not a relic of the website from pre-launch. As such, it reflects the studio’s current plans, including the emphasis on bug-fixing. While patches will no doubt remain their top priority for some time, this move does make sense. After all, releasing details about upcoming DLC (especially free DLC) could help to distract attention away from the game’s many flaws and ongoing trouble with retailers. Of course, it also runs a risk of provoking consumer backlash, with fans accusing the studio of focusing on DLC over fixing bugs. Ultimately, we will have to wait and see what path the studio chooses to take.
