What to Expect From the New Vault Cards in the Last Borderlands 3 DLC

Coming up in mid-March, Gearbox will be launching the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC; the second and last expansion of the game’s second Season Pass. While the headline features of the DLC include a new raid boss and new story content, the expansion will also include ‘Vault Cards.’

The Upcoming Borderlands 3 Vault Cards & New Cosmetics

According to Gearbox, Vault Cards are a new mechanic in Borderlands 3 which will allow players to unlock a wide range of in-game cosmetics. The studio describes them as; “three new challenge-based progression tracks that will unlock a bevy of themed cosmetics plus some supremely powerful gear that scales to your level”. The Cards will be managed via your ECHO Device, but not all will be available at launch. Only one of the Vault Cards will be active when the Director’s Cut DLC launches on the 18th of March. The other two cards will be arriving later in 2021.

While players have a Vault Card active, they’ll be assigned three challenges to complete each day, along with one “multi-tiered” challenge per week. The weekly challenge in particular will award a large amount of XP. While the challenges are random and drawn from a single pool, that pool does contain over 100 possibilities, so repetition should be minimal. Not only will they help speed up player progression thanks to their bonus XP rewards, but they’ll also provide players with the ability to unlock gear and cosmetics. According to Gearbox, players can expect more concrete details closer to the DLC launch date.

Alongside the Vault Cards, Gearbox will also be releasing new cosmetic packs with the Director’s Cut. These “Disciples of the Vault” cosmetic packs re-envision the four Vault Hunters as members of the Children of the Vault. There is one pack for each of the Vault Hunters, each containing a body and matching head; “Second Sister” Amara, “THE H4RBINGER” FL4K, “Saint of Iron” Moze, and “Bane Flynt” Zane. These packs will be available for purchase separately. However, they will be free for anybody who owns Season Pass 2 or Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition.
