After a relatively quiet January, Riot has revealed to fans what plans they have in store for Valorant Agents in the next upcoming patches. Specifically, these plans focus on two Agents in particular; Viper and Yoru, both of whom appear to be in need of a buff.
Riot’s Plans for Valorant Agents Viper & Yoru
In Riot’s latest ‘State of the Agents‘ blog – their first entry since the start of 2021 – the studio chose to focus its attentions solely on Yoru and Viper. According to John Gosicki, Valorant’s Character Producer, the other Agents currently seem to be in relatively good places. “With Brimstone and Omen changes live since 2.0,” explains Gosicki; “we’re seeing them settle into some healthier places. Right now, there is a more even choice competition between the two of them that highlight their respective strengths.”

Viper, however, as the third Controller-type Agent, is not quite so even. Viper has been a frequent target in patches and updates, and even now, still seems to be struggling in many match-ups. Unfortunately, Gosicki states that Viper will not be getting a proper update in the next patch. “We need to spend more time really defining where she fits within the choice competition between Brimstone and Omen,” he explains.
Yoru, meanwhile, is more likely to get tweaks in the near future. As the most recent addition to the roster, having only been playable for a few weeks, Yoru hasn’t had much time to settle into the meta. However, the developers already feel that he’s underperforming. “It’s only been a few weeks since he launched,” says Gosicki; “but we’ve noticed that mastery of his infiltration tools are not leading to the level of success we’d hoped for”. Fortunately for Yoru players, this means that he should be getting some buffs relatively soon. As a final mention, the blog confirms that the next Agent coming to Valorant will be another Controller. The blog is light on details, but does state that they will be; “a cosmic shift from the play patterns you’ve grown accustomed to.”
