The Last of Us Part 2 Earns Record Number of BAFTA Nominations

On the 25th of March, the annual BAFTA Game Awards will be taking place via livestream, marking one of the first major award events of 2021. Though it may come as no surprise, The Last of Us Part 2 already looks like a clear favourite to be the big winner of the show. Indeed, the game has secured a record-breaking number of nominations.

The Last of Us Part 2 BAFTA Nominations

The Last of Us Part 2 has been nominated for no less than 13 individual awards in the 2021 BAFTA Game Awards. Since the annual award show began back in 2004, no single game has ever been nominated for so many. Last year, Control and Death Stranding were the most-nominated titles, with 11 nominations each.

The Last of Us Part 2 certainly looks guaranteed to do well. However, the night’s overall winner is likely to be Sony. PlayStation exclusive titles are dominating the nominations this year, with The Last of Us Part 2 just the frontrunner of the pack. Ghost of Tsushima has secured 10 nominations, ahead of 7 each for both Dreams and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Sackboy: A Big Adventure brings up the rear with 4, making the total number of Sony nominations an impressive 41. Of course, some of these games are competing against one another in the same categories. Nonetheless, it is a clear sign of how dominant PlayStation exclusives were in 2020.

It remains to be seen whether The Last of Us Part 2 will win Best Game. It is, after all, facing stiff competition. Ghost of Tsushima is also up for that award, along with four other titles; Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Hades, Half-Life Alyx, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Last of Us Part 2 may well be the favourite, but a Ghost of Tsushima win might not be a total shock. Whatever the case, fans will have to tune in to the BAFTA Game Awards livestream on the 25th of March to find out the results for themselves.
