Zanki Zero Gets a Japanese Live Action Launch Trailer

Spike Chunsoft has released the Zanki Zero live-action Japanese trailer to celebrate the launch of the game in Japan. The highly-anticipated next game from the developers behind Danganronpa is all about life and death. The live-action trailer focuses on that concept by showcasing a character at various points in his life from birth all the way to old age and inevitable death.

To the uninitiated, the Zanki Zero live-action launch trailer may seem odd. However, the cycle of life and death is at the very core of what the game is all about. Much like how the gimmick for the Danganronpa series was a murder mystery game, the seemingly endless cycle of living and dying is the core feature for this new title from Spike Chunsoft.

The eight main characters in Zanki Zero can essentially die at any point in the game, and from some truly bizarre causes. There are the obvious possibilities of dying while fighting a monster, but there are way weirder reasons you can die. For instance, if your character is carrying too much weight, they can die from that.

Dying in Zanki Zero isn’t something that you should be afraid of, though, as it isn’t permanent. Each of the eight main characters has only a 13-day lifespan before they keel over. However, you are able to revive them as clones and they will be more powerful than before. That same monster that killed you before? You’ll now have stronger resistance to that creature.

You overloaded your team and died from carrying too much weight? You’ll be able to carry more when that character is revived as a new clone. This cycle of life and death will continue on throughout your playthrough of Zanki Zero. Like in the live-action launch trailer, you will see your characters age from baby all the way to old age. The game launches in Japan next week on July 5th. It has been announced for the West but it currently has an unknown release date.
