WWE 2K22 Cover Star and Release Date Predictions for Wrestling Sim Game
Fans were excited to learn that the WWE 2K franchise was returning with a new professional wrestling simulation game after a bit of a hiatus. There was no WWE 2K21, but instead WWE 2K Battlegrounds to keep fans appeased, if they enjoy that style of game. However, in recent weeks, the new title was teased and revealed. Now we’re looking towards possible WWE 2K22 cover star and release date predictions ahead of the official details.
Who will the WWE 2K22 cover star be?
WWE has a wide variety of superstars to choose from for their WWE 2K22 cover star, so it’s going to be interesting to see who ends up on the front of the game. Based on the 2K22 teaser trailer that arrived with that very brief footage, one would think Rey Mysterio is going to be the new game’s cover athlete. Mysterio was featured putting on his mask and getting into a match with Cesaro in the video.
That said, there are some other possibilities. For example, WWE could go with the current WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley as their newest cover star. That would make sense as he’s never appeared on the 2K game’s cover. The previous cover went to Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch.
In that case, Lashley might grace the cover along with a female athlete from the WWE. That might be Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Rhea Ripley, or Bianca Belair. The latter two may not quite have the name recognition among fans yet, though. They only recently won championships on the main roster after appearing in the 2021 women’s Royal Rumble.
Previous WWE cover stars included The Beast Brock Lesnar for WWE 2K17, Seth Rollins for WWE 2K18, and The Phenomenal AJ Styles for WWE 2K19.
Other contenders for the WWE 2K22 cover star could be former champion Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Rhea Ripley, or Charlotte Flair. Right now, 619 legend Rey Mysterio seems like the pick based on the teaser trailer, but one of these other superstars would also work well on the cover.
When is the new wrestling game’s release date?
As mentioned, it’s been a while since fans of the pro wrestling sim game have seen a traditional 2K title for their consoles. The WWE 2K20 game arrived on October 22, 2019. Unfortunately, it had a poor reception based on the numerous glitches and issues that arrived with it.
That put WWE 2K21 on the shelf, and instead, the WWE 2K Battleground game was released on September 18, 2020. It was an arcade-style fighting game with cartoonish antics and over-the-top battles but wasn’t quite what all fans wanted from a WWE 2K title.
So when might the WWE 222 release date be? It’s possible that with the lengthy hiatus, this game could be out by mid-to-late August. Other recent installments in the series came out on October 5, 2018 (WWE 2K19) and October 17, 2017 (WWE 2K18).
Or, WWE will save it until a similar September release date as the WWE 2K Battlegrounds game. Either way, there is likely to be much more on the way in terms of details, with many fans looking forward to what this game has to offer.
