Doom Slayer Chronicles is currently under development, and it will give GZDoom Engine a fresh tone. It will bring better lighting, PBR textures, and hardware shaders.
Modder “bifurcator_x” is working on a new map pack for Doom 2 singleplayer, and its name is Doom Slayer Chronicles. Doom Slayer Chronicles will be a technologically advanced map pack featuring better graphics from the original Doom 2. Doom 2 is a rather old video game, which makes this idea an interesting and challenging one. It will practically give players the opportunity to experience Doom 2 with recent technology advances.
“Bifurcator_x” is planning to take advantage of recent features of the GZDoom Engine. These include lighting, hardware shaders, PBR textures and full-screen post-processing. Nash Muhandes, the main developer, and programmer of the latest version of the GZDoom Engine, showcased some new graphical features he is going to add to it. Doom Slayer Chronicles will probably exploit these new features and adapt to them.
The developer released a few screenshots to show how his work will be. You can easily distinguish the great lighting and how good it already looks:
The images also follow a short video with a bit of his work:
The graphics look spectacular while the hand holding the gun remains similar to the Doom 2 one. Furthermore, the details on the lava and the pit are noticeable. The lava also has the effect of the heat going up, and it seems very realistic. The aspect of the outside world showing through the window is another great detail of his work. Moreover, the colors and the lighting are terrific, distinguishing the different rooms and passageways. Speaking of the corridors, the graphics of the stairs are amazing.
We are looking forward to the release of Doom Slayer Chronicles. “Bifurcator_x” aims to release it later this Summer so it will not be long before you have a chance to try it.
