Byron Beede, the former General Manager & EVP of the Call of Duty franchise, has reportedly been hired by EA. Beede will be taking on the position of General Manager & SVP of EA’s Battlefield franchise, ahead of the next Battlefield game’s reveal next week.
Byron Beede: New Battlefield General Manager
Byron Beede was formerly the Call of Duty General Manager until his resignation from that post earlier this year. He had spent more than fifteen years working for Activision Blizzard, most of which he spent working on Call of Duty. Most recently, aside from Black Ops Cold War, he also played a key role in the development of Call of Duty: Warzone, Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: Mobile. After his departure, Activision’s Esports Commissioner Johanna Fairies took over as his replacement.

Beede will now be taking on a similar position as General Manager of EA’s Battlefield franchise. As reported by IGN, EA said that this new hire; “signals a strategic, long-term commitment to the growth of the franchise”. Beede will be working directly with DICE studio head Vince Zampella on the upcoming Battlefield game. Fans currently know almost nothing about that project, which has been shrouded in secrecy for over a year. However, just two days ago, DICE finally announced that the game would be officially revealed on the 9th of June.
That game is not the only Battlefield title currently in development. Last month, DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson revealed that a second Battlefield game is also in the works. This game will be Battlefield’s first-ever mobile title, rather than a new console or PC release. It will also be a standalone release, rather than a port of an existing or future game. The game is currently in development at iToys, who are working in conjunction with DICE on the project. This Battlefield mobile game is due to release sometime in 2022.
