Do you have a PlayStation 5? If so, you should count yourself lucky, because most gamers still haven’t managed to get anywhere near one. Nevertheless, you may not feel so lucky when you have issues with the PS5 Rest Mode. Indeed, current gen players everywhere continue to struggle with this buggy feature.
PS5 Rest Mode Continues to Suffer Problems
We first wrote about the problems with Rest Mode clear back in November of last year. It has been more than half a year since then. So, you would think that Sony would have managed to fix this problem by now. But that has not happened.
Not familiar with the Rest Mode problems on PlayStation 5? Basically, if you let the PS5 enter Rest Mode, there is an error when you attempt to use it again. The console says it wasn’t shut down properly. It then proceeds to try and repair its drives. You have to sit there and wait for the process to complete, and only then can you get back to gaming.
It is possible to turn off Rest Mode—at least in theory. The problem is that the console does not always seem to recognize that the feature is supposed to be off. So, even if you take this step, it might enter the mode. And if it does, you will have the same problem when you go to use your console again.
So, we are still waiting for Sony to issue some kind of a fix for this. And we hope they do soon, because this problem is wasting a lot of gamers’ time on a frequent basis. Moreover, it leaves us worrying that it might be a harbinger of worse issues that could occur later down the line. What if eventually there is some kind of data loss? What if the drives actually end up needing repair?
In the meantime, PS5 consoles are harder than ever to come by both online and offline. This is due not just to the scalpers still scooping up consoles, but also the microchip shortage. Recent estimates suggest a lot of gamers won’t get their hands on a PS5 until 2022 or beyond. But hey—maybe by then, Sony will have fixed the problem with PS5 rest mode. At least then, there will be one less thing to worry about. Follow all our PlayStation news.
