Mere days after the official announcement of Battlefield 2042, earlier this week, DICE today unveiled the first look at pre-alpha gameplay for the upcoming title. The first Battlefield 2042 gameplay trailer was released as part of E3’s Microsoft-Bethesda live showcase.
The First Look at Battlefield 2042 Gameplay
“With support for 128 players,” writes DICE; “Battlefield 2042 brings unprecedented scale on vast environments across the globe. Players will take on several massive experiences, from updated multiplayer modes like Conquest and Breakthrough to the all-new Hazard Zone.”
Today’s gameplay trailer was the first look at actual gameplay for Battlefield 2042 that DICE has thus far released. The trailer consist of roughly three minutes of footage clips, showcasing a range of vehicles and environments on the Hourglass map. Indeed, a major focus of the trailer was on the verticality of the new maps; high-rise skyscrapers dominate the skyline, with zip-lines offering routes between the rooftops. This verticality is further emphasised by the aircraft, wingsuits, and the colossal tornados which tear across the map.

“Unleash your combat creativity through a full roster of cutting-edge weapons,” continues DICE; “and all-new equipment inspired by the near-fiture of 2042”. Indeed, this was one area which was less of a focus in the trailer. The trailer did briefly highlight one of the unique Specialist abilities; a player uses a grapple gun to pull themselves up onto a crane at one point. Presumably, this was Webster Mackay’s unique Grappling Hook item. Mackay is one of the four new Specialists who have been revealed so far, with several more still under wraps.
No doubt players will get a better look at the armoury of weapons and wargear soon, however, since the game’s release date is only a few months away. In fact, since DICE has traditionally run pre-release alpha and beta events for new Battlefield titles, players may get the chance to try Battlefield 2042 for themselves before too long.
