Over the last week, since around the 14th of September, Apex Legends has been suffering from server instability issues. Far from isolated incidents, this particular spate of server instability has been widespread and consistent, and as such, has prompted Respawn to release a new patch to try and address the problem.
Apex Legends Patch Targets Server Instability Problems
Early last week, Respawn was struck by major server instability problems. Unfortunately for the studio, this instability hit right alongside the launch of the Apex Legends Evolution Collection Event; a major event which should have drawn players to return to the game. Although Respawn managed to make some improvements last week, a true fix for the server issues was not so easily rolled out. At the time, the studio told players that; “a full return to normal may take our next planned patch on Sept 22.”
While that day has yet to arrive, Respawn has now released a new patch, two days early. According to the studio, this patch; “should meaningfully address teleporting, packet loss, and lag”. This isn’t a complete fix for the ongoing server issues, however. Rather, it should at least improve the situation until the patch release on Wednesday. Additionally, Respawn announced the discovery of a bug with animated banner poses which can cause players’ games to crash. A fix for this will be coming in the Wednesday patch, but for now, Respawn recommends un-equipping them.

The server issues which began last week have been some of the worst to afflict Apex Legends in a long time. The rate of disconnect errors spiked up to around three times the norm. The problems have prompted Respawn to extend the current Ranked Split by a full week, to avoid competitive players being unfairly impacted by the problem. That update to extend the split was part of today’s Apex Legends patch.
