Fortnite’s popularity has been a topic of many conversations in the past few years. The battle royale video game reached its peak in 2019 and many players believe that it’s no longer popular. However, the latest research by SuperDry shows that its popularity is still insanely high.
The company analyzed Google data to find the most popular video games and streamers in the world. There are around 3.2 billion gamers globally and it turns out that many of them prefer Fortnite over other games. Let’s check out the results of the research and see how popular the battle royale game is!
Fortnite’s popularity is rising, not decreasing
Fortnite Battle Royale still has more than two million concurrent players at nearly any given time. This is very impressive, especially since the game is now in its fifth year. Its main competitors, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends, are far behind and may not overtake Fortnite anytime soon.
According to the research, Fortnite is the most popular game in 106 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The game is extremely popular in Europe as only a few countries don’t have it as the most popular game: Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia.
In Asia, the situation is different as Fortnite and Minecraft fight for the top position. Fortnite is a clear winner in Africa and North America, while only three countries from South America prefer Fortnite over Minecraft. Finally, Fortnite’s popularity is still at the top in most of Oceania, including Australia, New Zealand, and Samoa.
The recap
Fortnite is still the most popular video game in the world and the race to the top is not even close. Out of all analyzed countries, this is the final list of most popular video games:
- Fortnite: 106 countries
- Minecraft: 51 countries
- Grand Theft Auto V – 2 countries
- Genshin Impact – 1 country
- Valorant: 1 country
It’s important to note that this data was collected before the release of Fortnite Chapter 3. Considering that the live event and the new chapter have drastically increased Fortnite’s popularity, it’s safe to say that the game will keep its spot for at least a few more months.
All in all, it’s impressive that the most popular video games in the world have all been out for a long time.
