Epic Games has drastically changed Fortnite Battle Royale with the release of Chapter 3. The new map is out and players also have to learn how the new weapons work. Additionally, it turns out that Fortnite aim assist has also been changed with the new chapter.
Many controller players have noticed this change and have been wondering what happened. Fortunately, the change doesn’t include every weapon nor does it affect shooting from distances. However, it will be interesting to see if this is just a temporary change or if the game developer will keep it in the game permanently.
Fortnite aim assist change has arrived with the new chapter
During the last few seasons of Chapter 2, the aim assist mechanic felt quite balanced. Controller players considered it fine and keyboard and mouse users did not consider it overpowered. However, Chapter 3 has changed many things, including this mechanic. There have been complaints about Fortnite aim assist so far in the new chapter and we’ll see if Epic does something about it.
Content creator Aussie Antics has recently made a video about the changes to this mechanic. He claims that these changes are not a bug, which is what some players believed. “This is an attempt to change the way aim assist works with certain weapons. It appears to be to counter box jumping with SMGs and ARs,” the Fortnite content creator stated.
Basically, the Fortnite aim assist has been reduced for the new assault rifles and the Stinger SMG. When players are one or two grids away from their enemy, aim assist will be turned off for these weapons. This makes the “spray and pray” meta less effective, but there is no doubt that the new weapons are still incredibly powerful, even without close-range aim assist.
Will it be changed?
Fortunately for controller players, the Fortnite aim assist change only includes close-range fights. In most of these fights, players don’t even need any assistance with aiming. Considering that the mechanic has remained unchanged for any other combat situation, this should not drastically affect players.
While Epic Games may decide to revert the change, it may not happen anytime soon. Since many players will not be affected by this, we could see it stay in the game for a few seasons.
