NBA 2K23 Will Again Contain a Major Drawback From NBA 2K22 and NBA 2K21

If you are planning on getting the NBA 2K23 PC version, you probably have been eagerly awaiting news about whether it will be ported from the current gen or last gen version of the game. Unfortunately, this year will follow the same trend as previous years. Once again, the NBA 2K23 version will be ported from the last gen version.

The NBA 2K23 PC Version Will Again Be the Last Gen Version

2K discusses this unpopular decision in their FAQ for NBA 2K23. One of the questions asks whether gamers on PC and Nintendo Switch will ever be able to look forward to playing next gen (current gen—PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) versions of NBA 2K. 2K responds, “This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future. For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.”

So, that is not great news for PC and Switch gamers this year. Alas, it is not a huge surprise, since PC is not as big a market for the franchise as Xbox or PlayStation. As far as the future goes, we would say the comment is pretty vague. 2K has at least acknowledged that this is something they are thinking about. But “continue to investigate” is pretty vague. So, it is hard to say whether it will be different for NBA 2K24 or not. Of course, eventually the change will have to take place.
