Endnight Games has announced that their open-world survival-horror experience, The Forest, will be releasing on PS4 this 6th, November.
The highly anticipated first-person horror title released on Steam Early Access in 2014 and after four years of consistent updates and fan feedback, The Forest officially launched on PC in May earlier this year to very positive reviews. Most critics lauded the game’s realistic AI, tense atmosphere and how the title manages to make its open-world environment feel like an authentic living, breathing world. Its PC release has achieved an 83 on Metacritic and an 83.5 on Gamerankings, respectively.
The overall premise of the survival-horror experience places you in the shoes of a lone survivor from a jet plane that was crash-landed on an island brimming with mutant cannibals. Players must explore, craft and build, all while avoiding getting munched by the overzealous locals that have eked out a lonely existence on the island.
Gameplay-wise, exploration is absolutely paramount to your survival. Players can chop down trees to build camps and shelters in order to protect themselves from the island’s harsh environmental elements. Additionally, traps and weapons can be crafted to protect you from the marauding cannibal tribes.
Interestingly, one new feature that may get PS4 owners excited is a brand-new 4-player co-op mode that wasn’t included in the original PC release. In this mode, 4 players take on the role of a group of fathers who have lost their children. Essentially, the fathers must all work together as a team in a bid to find their missing bambinos.
The Forest is available now on PC, and is scheduled to arrive on the 6th, November on PS4.
In other horror-related news, the Until Dawn developers have recently announced that they’re working on the Dark Pictures Anthology, which will be a brand-new series of standalone horror games. Colour us intrigued!
