The upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake launches in just a few days on January 25. To whet fans’ appetites, Capcom released a unique “1-shot demo” for the remake which restricts total playtime to 30 minutes. However, it seems that for a large number of players, even 30 minutes is a bit too much to bear.
Resident Evil 2 Remake 1-Shot Demo Stats
When a player first boots the Resident Evil 2 1-shot demo up, they can connect to the ResidentEvil.Net web service. Among other things, ResidentEvil.Net tracks various game-based statistics, and that stat-tracking functionality extends to the 1-shot demo.
As of this writing, the ResidentEvi.Net stats page for the 1-shot demo shows roughly 2.5 million registered players. Specifically, the stats reference players who linked to ResidentEvil.Net while playing the demo. The stats page tracks worldwide participation, and unsurprisingly the largest concentration of registered players is based in North America.
However, what *is* surprising is the Resident Evil 2 1-shot demo’s completion rate statistic. According to the current readings, only 26 percent of demo participants actually made it to the end of the demo. If we go by rough estimates, that means that for every four demo players only one actually completes it.
I’d be curious to know why exactly so many players are throwing in the towel before reaching the demo’s end. Having played the demo myself, I can certainly sympathize if they found it to be too scary. The demo also has a lot of optional puzzle content so maybe they just lost track of the 30-minute timer. It’s also possible the stats take into account players who booted up the demo but didn’t actually play it.
Either way, it’s good that Capcom provided fans with a means of sampling the full Resident Evil 2 remake experience. Of course there are means of bypassing the 30-minute timer for players who just can’t get enough. We’ve also got some tips and strategies for finishing the demo as efficiently as possible.
