Absolver’s upcoming Downfall expansion will bring with it some substantial new content additions, not least of which is a brand new PvE-centric mode, the titular Downfall, that should assuage players who are unhappy with the game’s current PvP focus. During a recent Q&A, developer Sloclap disclosed some specific details about how the Downfall mode will function and what sorts of rewards players will be able to earn.
A roundup of relevant information from the Q&A can be found here, but we’ve also outlined a few of our own highlights below.
- Players won’t be able to participate in the Downfall mode until they beat the game’s main story campaign and become an Absolver. Once the campaign has been cleared the player can queue up for Downfall matches from the Character Traits menu.
- Over time, players will be able to unlock three separate “depths” for the Downfall experience, and the depth chosen will determine how long the match is. Depth 3 matches are expected to take around 30-40 minutes each, and lower depths will naturally take less time.
- Each depth will have a unique boss encounter at the end (adding up to three new bosses total), but each match will only feature one boss fight (the one corresponding to the depth chosen).
- There will be story content tied to Downfall, including new cutscenes, lore, and a friendly NPC named Iktar who will provide relevant information to the players.
- Playing Downfall will award a currency called Gleam which can be used to unlock unique new cosmetic rewards such as clothing and masks.
- Gleam will also be used to unlock features like the expansion’s new Faejin combat style.
- There won’t be any new enemy bosses in the main overworld, but all overworld enemies (bosses included) will benefit from the combat AI enhancements Sloclap is implementing for the Downfall mode’s adversaries.
- There will be at least seven new masks to earn, maybe more.
The Q&A also reiterated that Downfall is still on track to arrive sometime later this month. A final release date will be revealed via an upcoming PlayStation Blog post that will provide even more information on the expansion. And speaking of game expansions, the imminent arrival of Sea of Thieves’ Forsaken Shores expansion has prompted developer Rare to release a new cinematic trailer.
