Sloclap has announced that it will be releasing a sizeable expansion called ‘Downfall’ for its online martial arts adventure game Absolver. Among other things, the expansion will add in a new PvE game mode, a new fighting style, and a new School Challenges system that will allow members of a school to collaboratively unlock unique rewards.
According to this announcement post, the Downfall expansion should arrive sometime in September of this year. The main highlights of the expansion will be as follows:
- A new Downfall PvE mode in which players venture deep into the Adalian Mines, either alone or in a group with other players, and battle waves of AI enemies as they work through a series of procedurally generated challenges. Players will acquire a new currency called Gleam as they traverse deeper into the mines, and if they manage to survive Downfall’s many dangers (including three unique boss fights), they’ll be able to redeem their Gleam for powerful rewards.
- A new combat style called Faejin which is themed around the Jeet Kune Do fighting philosophy that was pioneered by legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. Faejin will be a sort of hybrid offense/defense style that will allow practitioners to learn 26 new unarmed combat moves and 15 new sword moves.
- School Challenges that will allow Mentors and Disciples of a given school to participate in 1v1 PvP combat trials using their school’s associated deck and abilities. A new ‘season’ of School Challenges will be held every three weeks, and players can unlock both individual and school-wide rewards by winning School Challenge matches.
- Six brand new equipment sets that add up to 51 individual items. The expansion will also include prestige variants for existing equipment sets, new masks, new emotes, and new PvP intros.
Along with the Downfall expansion, Sloclap confirmed that an Xbox One version of Absolver is still on the way, though it couldn’t give a specific timetable for when the Xbox One version might launch in full. Absolver players will also be able to purchase a special $2.99 ‘Adalian Forest’ DLC pack later this week that contains exclusive emotes, armor variants, and a weapon variant of the River Gladius sword. Sloclap was careful to clarify that the stats associated with the Adalian Forest items are the same as those for items which are already available in the game, and thus they won’t confer any sort of unfair advantage.
There’s still time to grab a free copy of Absolver as part of July’s PlayStation Plus offerings. And in other fighting game news, a second open beta has been confirmed for Naruto to Boruto Shinobi Striker.
