The first season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now live, and with it, players have gotten access to a host of new maps. Four of these are available in the game as of yesterday, while a further two will be added during the course of the season… and that’s just the six that Activision have announced so far. According to the season’s content roadmap, there are even more maps to come later in Modern Warfare Season One.
New Multiplayer Maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season One
Right now, there is only one new core multiplayer map available in Modern Warfare Season One; Crash. However, an additional two general maps will be coming to the game in due course. All three of these maps are in fact remakes of classic maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the original Modern Warfare game. In its new iteration, Crash features an Al-Qatala helicopter loaded with contraband, which both the Allegiance and Coalition forces are fighting to claim.
“Although this map has a new home in the narrative,” explains Activision; “Crash is just how veterans of the franchise remember it with a few twists: flanking routes and those memorable rooftops are back, but there are also some new areas to explore that make this town even more realistic than before.”
The other two maps on the way in Season One are Shipment and Vacant. Vacant will be arriving first, although a release date has not yet been announced. Shipment, which will be arriving after Vacant, will actually be available as both a standard multiplayer and Gunfight map; “Its small size was essentially built for Gunfight long before the mode came into existence,” writes Activision; “and veterans will feel right at home battling amongst the containers.”
New Gunfight & Ground War Maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season One
Modern Warfare Season One brings two new Gunfight maps to the game right away; Atrium and Cargo. Both of these are available to play right now. The Shipment Gunfight map, along with any other upcoming additions, will be of course be available later in the season. Atrium is set within a crumbling palace in Verdansk, while Cargo is set within the open cargo hold of a freight ship in the London docks. The season’s launch also brought a single new Ground War map to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare; the largest of all of the new maps.
Port, the new Ground War map, is likely set very close to the Cargo map. While Cargo is set within a docked freight ship, the Port map is the dockyard around that ship. As a much larger area, Port spans the dockyard buildings, side-streets, and even freight cranes. All of these are available to play in Modern Warfare’s map rotation right now. Plus, there is reportedly more on the way as the season progresses, so be sure to stay tuned for more Modern Warfare news.
