All the New Wood Elves Coming in The Twisted and The Twilight DLC

The Wood Elves first came to the first Total War: Warhammer game four years ago, introduced by the Realm of the Wood Elves DLC. Since then, the race hasn’t had a single expansion, leaving them significantly outdated. However, as of next week, that will finally change. The Twisted and The Twilight DLC is set to bring a huge update to the Wood Elves, featuring new characters, units, and more.

The Twisted and The Twilight: New Wood Elf Lords & Heroes

As with every Lord Pack DLC, The Twisted and The Twilight features two opposing Legendary Lords. While the Skaven will get Throt the Unclean, the Wood Elves will get Naestra and Arahan, the Sisters of Twilight. This pair act together as a single Lord character atop their Great Eagle mount (later replaced by a Forest Dragon). They boast powerful ranged damage, able to switch between Anti-Large and Anti-Infantry arrows at will. In campaign, they lead the new Heralds of Ariel faction, and will be the only Wood Elf faction playable in the Eye of the Vortex campaign.

Alongside the Sisters of Twilight, the Wood Elves will also get a new generic Lord; the Spellweaver. A Lord variant of the Spellsinger Hero, the Spellweaver is a pure wizard character with access to the Lores of Beasts, Dark, High, Life, and Shadow. No new Wood Elf Heroes are included in the DLC itself. However, Creative Assembly will be releasing the new Glade Captain Hero alongside The Twisted and The Twilight. This Wood Elf Hero will be free to download on Total War Access.

Finally, the Wood Elves will also gain access to a new Legendary Hero, the Queen of Athel Loren herself, Ariel. Serving a similar role to Lord Kroak, Ariel is a hugely powerful wizard. She has access to Life magic along with plenty of unique abilities and bound spells. She will be available to recruit via a quest chain for all Wood Elf factions save for Drycha, the new Free-LC Legendary Lord who is coming to the game alongside the DLC. In her place, Drycha will be able to recruit the imprisoned Treeman Coeddil as her own Legendary Hero.

The Twisted and The Twilight: New Wood Elf Units

When it comes to units, the Wood Elves will be getting a whole host of new additions. Plus, the faction will also be getting three new Regiments of Renown.

  • Bladesingers: Equipped with magic attacks, this new unit serves as a more elite version of the existing Wardancers. They serve a similar role in battle, albeit with greater ability to deal with powerful enemies.
  • Great Stag Knights: A new heavy cavalry unit, these wood elf cavaliers ride upon Great Stags; enormous forest mounts with towering antlers. The unit packs enormous punch on the charge, and what’s more, boasts better speed than most comparable heavy cavalry.
  • Zoats: A new monstrous unit akin to the Dragon Ogres of Chaos, Zoats are ancient beings who have long had a connection to the Wood Elves. In battle, these monsters are bruisers, but also come equipped with two bound spells from the Lore of Life; Earth Blood and Flesh to Stone. Each unit can use each of these spells twice per battle.
  • * Glade Riders (Spears): This new unit is simply a variant of the existing Glade Riders equipped with spears and shields. Their inclusion provides the Wood Elves with a cheap, light, melee cavalry unit. Note that this unit isn’t part of the DLC per se, but is instead included in a free update launching the same day.

  • Wraiths of the Frozen Heart (Dryads): This new Regiment of Renown unit of Dryads have a wintry, frozen look to them. In battle, their attacks inflict the Frostbite debuff, which penalises the speed of anything they hit.
  • Lost Sylvan Knights (Great Stag Knights): This incredibly powerful unit have an unearthly green glow, indicating that the unit is Ethereal. This means that, while they have 0 Armour, they boast a massive 75% Physical Resistance! Like other ghostly units, they are vulnerable to magic attacks, but highly resilient against most other forms of damage. As an added bonus, they also cause Terror and gain the Strider ability.
  • Enigmas of Ghyran (Zoats): A variant of the standard Zoats, these monsters have a boosted kit of bound spells. Instead of 2 uses of Earth Blood, the Enigmas have a single use of Regrowth; a much more powerful healing spell from the Lore of Life.
