Fans recently noticed a rather unusual “leak,” on two of Amazon’s product listings for Cyberpunk 2077. Retail leaks are certainly commonplace, and Amazon has been a prime culprit on several occasions, accidentally revealing information like release dates ahead of schedule. In this case, however, the dates are quite clearly placeholders, but what makes them notable is their sheer absurdity.
According to Amazon, fans should expect to see the upcoming game release in 2030. Unless you’re hoping to buy an Xbox One Download Code, in which case there’s bad news; you may not be able to until 2099!
Amazon’s Absurd Placeholder Cyberpunk 2077 Release Dates
Fans recently spotted the two placeholders on Amazon’s online store listings for the Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077. The standard Xbox One version of the game currently lists a 2030 release date, while the download code option lists 2099. It’s common for retailers to list placeholder release dates when they haven’t been given an exact date. In fact, there was a possible retailer leak earlier this week which seemed to suggest an upcoming (and unlikely) Witcher 3 port for the Nintendo Switch; in that case, the retailer listed a release date of “31/12/2019,” and that’s quite a common sight. In lieu of an exact figure, retailers often list the last possible date of a given year.
Someone at Amazon clearly decided that they wanted to leave no confusion that these dates were placeholders. The latest report from a Polish analytics company estimates a Cyberpunk 2077 release in Q4 of 2019. Granted, CD Projekt Red has not announced a formal release date. It’s unknown when they might do so, and the studio has stressed to fans that they aren’t sacrificing quality by rushing the game’s development. However, while it’s certainly possible that the analysts are wrong, or that the game is delayed… it does rather seem unlikely that those delays will last for decades.
