AMD Expects On-Time Next Gen Console Release Schedule

With coronavirus throwing a wrench into manufacturing overseas, a lot of people have one big question on their minds: Will PS5 and Xbox Series X still release as planned during the 2020 holidays? The last we heard, production of PlayStation 5 was reportedly still on track even with the pandemic. Now, we have additional insights from AMD which give us cause to believe that the next gen console release schedule remains on target.

What AMD Said About the Next Gen Console Release Schedule

During AMD’s Financial Analyst Day, Rick Bergman, Executive Vice President of Computing and Graphics at AMD, reportedly said that both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are still on schedule for the intended holiday release window.

So, that is some hopeful news. Just keep in mind that it is not a guarantee that either console will release on time. There could still be unanticipated delays further along in the production process. It is also possible that the consoles will still release during the planned window, but not as many units will be available to ship out initially. In other words, supply could be limited, and those who do not order fast might find themselves facing delays.

There is no guaranteed way to protect yourself from such delays, but pre-ordering the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X probably would give you the best chance of receiving your next gen console right away upon release.

While we think there is a good chance that Sony and Microsoft will be able to keep their original release window, we are not getting our hopes up too high. But we choose to look at it this way. If there are delays, that just gives us more of a chance to save up toward what could end up being an expensive set of consoles.
