This year’s GuardianCon 2018 event was preceded by its usual week-long charity drive, a drive meant to support the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. During this year’s drive, Destiny fans from all over proved just how generous they can be, and in the process they managed to meet some pretty crazy donation milestones. One of those milestones led to some interesting revelations about Destiny 2’s upcoming 1.2.3. update, while another meant some very bad news for a pair of Destiny streamers.
During the Destiny Community Podcast’s segment of the charity drive, podcast hosts Pope Bear and Patrick “Holtzmann” Casey proclaimed that if they raised at least $100,000 during their stream segment of the drive, they would get matching heart tattoos on their behinds. As the stream entered its second half, that goal seemed too far off to meet, and Pope Bear and Casey were undoubtedly breathing a subtle sigh of relief. However, fellow Destiny streamer CCkun91 decided to step in at the 11th hour, pledging a massive $25,000 donation that spurred on other donations until the $100,000 goal was cleared.
Casey’s reaction on Twitter (along with CCkun91’s response) was priceless:
My bad

Meanwhile, Bungie community manager Dmg04 offered his own donation incentives: individual patch notes for Destiny 2’s upcoming 1.2.3. update. And of course, all of the incentives were cleared with ease, prompting Dmg04 to reveal, among other things, that update 1.2.3 will allow players to preview spawn transmat effects and Sparrow contrails, will remove the Momentum modifier from all Heroic Adventures, and will allow players to find an Exotic Catalyst for the weapon Sturm by killing enemies on Nessus. All of the revealed patch notes can be found over at Dmg04’s Twitter feed.
Speaking of the 1.2.3 update, it’s actually scheduled to launch in just a few days on July 17. Along with the changes that Dmg04 mentioned, the update will be making some significant changes to Destiny 2’s Crucible PvP component. For those who prefer PvE gameplay, the update will also add in Prestige Raid Lairs that will allow players to earn 400 Power Level weapons ahead of the September launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion.
