Anthem Will Be Fully Complete When Purchased, Says BioWare

DLC is a bit like Marmite. You either love it or hate it, or you’re just that sick of hearing about it that you have no opinion whatsoever. Regardless of how you feel, Anthem has been said to have more than enough content coming out afterward its release, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be getting the complete package the very first day you buy it.

That may seem like a confusing statement. After all, if the player is getting the full package then why on earth is new stuff being added to the game afterward? Much like GTA Online, BioWare believes that their live-service game will work best by adding new content to the game afterward in the form of quests, weekly activities, and events. No matter what, there will always be something brand new to come back to. As we’ve said before, replayability is key for a game like Anthem, and it’s obvious BioWare are taking this seriously.

Anthem

In an interview with USGamer, they spoke to Mark Darrah and Mike Gamble, lead producer and executive director of Anthem, about what lessons they had learned from live service games, and how they would implement those lessons in the future.

At one point Darrah said there were more than a few live-service games that had launched and that “people came in and they went, ‘there’s not enough here’ and they left. So, I think it’s partially because the competition in the space has gotten harder people are less willing to just kind of hang out and hope that stuff is going to come along.” And while Darrah didn’t mention any names, there are games such as Sea of Thieves and Destiny 2 that spring to mind, with the former now recovering from its lack of content whereas the latter is still struggling.

Anthem will be coming out February 22nd, 2019.
