After months of speculation (and one fairly obvious leak), fans now know for sure; Crypto is the next Legend coming to Apex Legends. The new character was the focus of a new animated trailer released earlier today, which gives fans a glimpse of his backstory. The trailer is the latest episode of Respawn’s ‘Stories From the Outlands’ series; a lore-centric video series which has previously focused on Wraith and Wattson.
Full Apex Legends Crypto Release Coming Soon?
“Forever Family,” the third entry in the ‘Stories From the Outlands’ series, is also notably different from either of the previous episodes. Thus far, each episode has had a fairly different art style. In this shorter episode, fans got to see the inciting events which led to the character becoming ‘Crypto’. It is widely suspected by the game’s community that Crypto was the character responsible for opening up King’s Canyon at the start of Season 2. Now it seems that the rogue hacker will be making his own debut into the game with Season 3.
Apex Legends’ third season, Meltdown, will feature a new Battle Pass, Crypto, and a new weapon, the Charge Rifle. There will also be a new Ranked league starting. All of this is set to launch on the 1st of October. Currently, not much is known about how Crypto will work in-game. However, now that this animated teaser has been released, Respawn is likely to release a gameplay trailer or more concrete details about Crypto towards the end of the month.
Crypto will be the third new Legend to be added to the game since its launch, following that of Wattson at the start of Season 2 and Octane prior to that. His addition will bring the roster of playable Legends up to 11. As always, Respawn has not made public any long-term plans for the game. However, their recent events do seem to have established a consistent format for new content releases. Whether this will continue or change in Season 3 remains to be seen.
