Yesterday, Respawn informed fans via social media that they would be adding a new limited-time Apex Legends Duos mode today; replacing the Fight or Fright event which has now come to an end. Now that the mode is available, Respawn has confirmed exactly how long players will have access. Unfortunately, it will only be available for two weeks, with the period ending on the 19th of November.
The New Limited-Time Apex Legends Duos Mode
The new Apex Legends Duos mode does much as players would expect; it allows players to play battle royale in teams of two, instead of three. The mode comes as part of a new update which launched earlier today, alongside the addition of a new Firing Range practice mode, and of course, various tweaks and quality of life improvements.
This isn’t the first time that Respawn has made such a mode available for only a short time. Although this is the first time Duos has been available, they did previously make a Solos mode available to play, earlier this year. While these modes are likely to be tests of a sort for Respawn, helping the developers gauge where player interests lie, they are also unlikely to come to the game permanently. (At least, not anytime soon.) Now that Respawn has confirmed that Duos will only be available for two weeks, certain parallels look notably more likely.
Specifically, it seems as though Respawn is taking a page from DICE’s playbook for Battlefield 5. During the course of Tides of War, the game’s post-launch seasons, DICE has often brought fan-favourite modes such as Rush to the game, but typically only for two weeks at a time. Evidently, this model incentivises players to return to the game, while also ensuring a steady cycle of fresh content. It seems entirely possible that Respawn is testing a similar tactic for Apex Legends.
