Next week, Respawn will be launching the Apex Legends Aftermarket Collection event, featuring the first-ever beta for cross-play. Alongside the usual roster of new cosmetics, Aftermarket will also feature a new limited-time game mode; Flashpoint. This mode removes all healing items in favour of a location-based approach to healing.
The Apex Legends Flashpoint Game Mode
“The centrepiece of this mode are Flash Points,” writes Apex Legends System Designer Mark Yampolsky; “massive zones dotted around towns in Kings Canyon. Flash Points are special because they regenerate your health and shields over time to get you healed and ready for combat in a flash.”
These Flash Points replace the standard methods of healing in this mode, as all the normal healing items have been removed. (Players will be able to craft Phoenix Kits rather than med kits at Crafting Replicators, although they will be expensive.) While the zones are your only way to heal, they are also likely to be extremely dangerous, as numerous different teams converge on the location at once. “These zones are going to create massive multi-squad fights that bring the feeling of a team deathmatch to Apex Legends,” writes Yampolsky; “complete with health regeneration that evokes some of our favourite classic first person shooters.”
In addition to this unique difference, the Flashpoint mode also follows the rules of the Always Be Closing mode. This means that the circle will never stop closing as the game progresses, forcing players to stay on the move. In fact, the circle will always close on a Flash Point; thereby ensuring that the final battle in each match is as climactic as possible. The Flashpoint mode will only be available to play for a limited time, for the duration of the Apex Legends Aftermarket event. It will be playable from the 6th of October until the event ends on the 20th.
