In a last-minute announcement, Respawn has delayed the opening of registrations for the upcoming Apex Legends Global Series. Instead of opening today, registration will now be available from around noon tomorrow; just three days ahead of the first Global Series online tournament on the 25th of January.
When Apex Legends Global Series Registration Will Open
The Apex Legends Global Series, the first official esports tournament for Respawn’s battle royale title, is due to begin with its first online tournament on the 25th & 27th of January. A second online tournament will follow on the 29th of February and 2nd of March, leading to the first Global Series Major, taking place from the 13th to the 15th of March. Dates for the remainder of the year-long tournament’s 22 events have yet to be announced. Although registration has been delayed from today, Respawn announced in a follow-up tweet that registrations will instead open tomorrow at 12:00 PM PST.
While professional teams and players will be joining the tournament via Premier Events, granting advanced placement in the Majors, the tournament is open to anybody who registers. Squads will have to compete through online competitions to qualify for live events, as well as earn Global Series Points. If you want to compete, you’ll need to register as soon as you can once registrations go live; after all, the first tournament event will be taking place just a few days later.
At the end of its 10 online tournaments and 12 global live events, the Global Series’ winners will get a share of a $3 million prize pool; a huge sum for an inaugural esports competition. Additionally, Challenger Events throughout the Series will also feature their own smaller prize pools. (And winners at these events can even secure placement in the Majors.) In related news, Respawn recently announced a partnership with Lenovo Legion to be the tournament’s exclusive PC and monitor sponsor. As such, Lenovo will be providing 200 high-end desktops and monitors for the tournament’s live events.
