Ahead of the upcoming launch of Apex Legends Season 7, later today, Respawn has confirmed that the game’s Kings Canyon map will presently be dropping out of rotation. The studio posted a message on social media noting that; “Today is your last chance to play Kings Canyon before it goes out of rotation for a little while in Season 7.”
Apex Legends Kings Canyon Out of Rotation in Season 7
The decision to drop the Apex Legends Kings Canyon map out of rotation with the launch of Season 7 makes a lot of sense. Season 7’s biggest headline feature, perhaps, is the addition of an all-new map. The Olympus map will be the game’s third, following on from the launch of World’s Edge. As such, it makes sense that Respawn would want to prioritise Olympus in rotation. After all, they’ll be wanting to give players lots of opportunities to play on it. While World’s Edge will remain in rotation, ensuring some variability, it makes sense to drop the game’s oldest map for a time.
What remains to be seen is whether Kings Canyon will return later in Season 7. (Or whether players will have to wait until the next season before they see it again.) Apex Legends has never had more than two maps before, so there is no existing precedent for this case. It’s entirely possible that Respawn could leave Olympus and World’s Edge in the map rotation for the rest of the season. Indeed, this would give them the opportunity to bring back Kings Canyon with more fanfare with the launch of Season 8, perhaps. Or, alternatively, alongside the launch of a late-season event.
Whatever the case, the focus will certainly be on Olympus for a while, even with World’s Edge remaining playable. Fans of Kings Canyon will have to wait before they can play on it again. However, hopefully, having a completely new map (featuring the game’s first pilotable vehicles!) will be plenty to keep everybody sated.
