Earlier today, Respawn announced a new partnership with the world-famous Weta Workshop, the New Zealand-based special effects and prop company. Weta Workshop will be designing and releasing a series of collectibles based on the Apex Legends characters. There is no formal release date yet, except that they will come later in 2019.
Weta Workshop Will Produce Collectibles of the Apex Legends Characters
Weta Workshop is perhaps best known as a special effects and prop company which works with film studios. Indeed, perhaps most famously, the company made the props for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They have also worked on a host of other high-profile movies, including Alita: Battle Angel, Blade Runner 2049, and Thor: Ragnarok, among others. However, the company does also do smaller merchandising projects. In this case, the Apex Legends collectibles will be part of their existing ‘Mini Epics‘ and ‘Micro Epics’ ranges; lines of vinyl collectible figurines from; “movies, games, manga and TV.”
Neither Weta Workshop nor Respawn have yet revealed any looks of the upcoming collectibles. However, you can sign up to a mailing list for the upcoming release. The signup email says that; “Weta Workshop & Apex Legends are teaming up to bring your favourite Legends to life. We’ve got exciting things in the pipeline for collectors of cool stuff. Micro Epics, Mini Epics and more, coming soon.”
This is one of Respawn’s first big merchandising announcements since the release of Apex Legends. Thus far, the studio hasn’t released much merchandise for the game, nor have they partnered with many external companies to produce any. Indeed, this new partnership will be the first to bring the Apex Legends characters to life in this particular format. For now, however, fans will have to wait to hear more from Weta Workshop about the upcoming release.
