Next Tuesday, on the 5th of January, Respawn will be launching their first Apex Legends event of 2021; the Fight Night Collection Event. Inspired by the new “Fight Night” episode of Stories From the Outlands, this event includes the first Town Takeover for the game’s Olympus map, which is also coincidentally the first-ever Apex Legends Pathfinder Town Takeover.
The New Apex Legends Pathfinder Town Takeover
Among the new content additions coming in next week’s Fight Night event is the first-ever Olympus Town Takeover. Each of Apex Legends’ past maps has been host to several Town Takeovers; new additions or changes to a specific part of the map based on a certain character. In this case, the new Pathfinder Town Takeover is a boxing ring inspired by Pathfinder’s recent role in Stories From the Outlands. Surrounded by a viewing area, the arena is clearly visible thanks to a huge floating ring covered in advertising billboards.
Within the new arena, players will find a cube-shaped fighting area protected by blue barriers. These barriers block all projectiles and abilities, making it impossible for players outside to affect those within. Moreover, once you enter the ring, all of your own weapons and abilities will be disabled. In the arena, the only way to take down your opponents is by using ordinary melee attacks.
This isn’t merely a gimmick for a change of pace, however; there’s a very good reason to want to enter the arena besides its unique mechanics. Namely, this is because the ring contains a number of loot balls. These containers can be moved by punching them, allowing players to move them around the ring, or even knock them out. You won’t be able to open these balls inside the arena. However, if you can punch one out through the protective barrier, then it can be opened. Typically, these balls will contain rare loot, incentivising players to enter the arena to try and claim them.
