Earlier today, Respawn officially launched Meltdown, Apex Legends‘ long-awaited third season. The season launch is the game’s largest yet, with more new content than was included in the Season 2. In addition to the new Legend and new weapon, players get access to a whole new map; World’s Edge. All of that is now available for free in Apex Legends Season 3.
What’s Included in Apex Legends Season 3
When Apex Legends Season 2 launched earlier this year, Respawn added a new Legend and a new weapon to the game, as well as new cosmetics and a Battle Pass. Plus, they included a significant rework of the King’s Canyon map. For Apex Legends Season 3, the studio has certainly set a higher bar for future season launches. World’s Edge is the first new map to come to Apex Legends since the game’s release, and is significantly different to King’s Canyon. It features lava flows, frozen ruins, and even a train that moves around the map.
The season launch also coincides with the launch of the second Apex Legends Ranked Series, which follows on from the first series, albeit with some important tweaks and adjustments. A loss forgiveness system is likely to be a popular addition with players, while all scores will multiply by a factor of 10. This allows Respawn more flexibility when it comes to scoring. Additionally, it means that the cost to enter ranked matches will change. Bronze is still free, while Silver is 12, Gold is 24, Platinum is 36, and Apex Predator is 60.
October is likely to be a big month for Apex Legends, with Respawn widely promoting the new season launch in a bid to attract new and old players alike. Certainly, the addition of a new map is a good incentive for players to revisit the game, especially if they haven’t played since launch. After all, a lot of extra content has come to the game since then. Two retail editions of Apex Legends will also be launching on the 18th; another way in which Respawn and EA seem to be promoting the game.
