With the launch of Apex Legends Season 5, Kings Canyon is back, but it isn’t exactly the classic map which players will remember. Just like World’s Edge did in Season 4, Kings Canyon has gotten some big changes this season, including the complete destruction of Skull Town and much more.
Kings Canyon in Apex Legends Season 5
According to Respawn, the developers wanted to change the flow of Kings Canyon in Season 5, reinventing the classic map somewhat to provide a new experience for players. Perhaps the biggest change in pursuit of this goal is the destruction of both Skull Town and Thunderdome. The Broken Coast has been expanded in their place, and new areas have emerged too. “Salvage,” for example, is a new area along The Broken Coast which offers a means to relocate to Gauntlet via a zipline balloon.
Another big addition to Kings Canyon in Season 5 is the Offshore Rig. Attached to the Relay and Wetlands zones, the Rig connects these areas wth Capacitor and Swamps. Although passing through the Rig will take longer, this new area boasts a good selection of loot, making it a worthwhile detour. Capacitor, mentioned above, is also a new addition to the map which is rich with loot; an ideal area for Loba to make use of her Ultimate. Capacitor also serves a purpose as a hub for travel between zones, offering new paths to traverse Kings Canyon.
If you search the area around Capacitor, you’ll find a number of smaller camps where you can get fresh loot. According to Respawn, these satellite camps aim to encourage players not to simply; “take the straightest path to the map centre,” and rather explore alternate routes which offer different pros and cons.
The final major addition to Kings Canyon this season are the Charge Towers. Located all over Kings Canyon, these tall, glowing yellow towers can be a useful asset. Interact with the controls at a tower’s base, and you can set off a blast of energy. This blast doesn’t cause any damage. Rather, it will immediately restore the Ultimate of all players on the Tower’s platform.
