As with the release of previous seasons, players can expect to get another new weapon with Apex Legends Season 4. This time around, that weapon will be an all-new bolt-action sniper rifle; the Sentinel. Interestingly, the Sentinel really is ‘all-new’ in that it isn’t a new version of an existing weapon from Titanfall. Both new weapons added by previous seasons have been new versions of existing firearms.
The New Apex Legends Sentinel Sniper Rifle
Apex Legends Season 2 was the first season to bring a new weapon to the game, in the form of the L-Star, a classic weapon from Titanfall 2. Season 3, meanwhile, also brought a weapon in from the past; the Charge Rifle, a weapon which had been a powerful anti-Titan infantry weapon from both previous Titanfall games. This time around, Apex Legends Season 3 is bringing something new. Whether intentionally or not, the Sentinel does bear a slight resemblance to the Valkyrie; a bolt-action sniper rifle which briefly appeared ina closed beta for Titanfall Online. That game, which was a free-to-play port of the first Titanfall game aimed at the Asian market, was cancelled in 2018 before its full release.
According to Respawn, the Apex Legends Sentinel is a powerful bolt-action sniper rifle. What sets it apart from the game’s existing sniper rifles is that it has some sort of “charge mechanic,” although Respawn didn’t go into detail about how exactly that will work. Comments from today’s Devstream do seem to suggest that players will be able to take more powerful shots by charging up the weapon before firing. However, unlike the Charge Rifle, charging may not be necessary to fire normally.
Whatever the case, Respawn will likely be releasing more concrete details about the Sentinel relatively soon. Of course, players will be able to try out the weapon for themselves once Season 4 launches on the 4th of February. The new season will be bringing Forge, a new Legend, as well as a significant map rework for Worlds Edge. There will also be a new Battle Pass, and some interesting changes to the game’s Ranked Mode.
