Earlier this year, Respawn announced that Apex Legends would be coming to both Steam on PC and the Nintendo Switch. However, they didn’t announce a release date for either. Now, alongside the announcement of Season 7, Respawn has confirmed that the Steam release date will be in just one week’s time, on the 4th of November.
The Apex Legends Steam Release Date
“For PC players,” writes Chad Grenier, the Apex Legends Game Director; “Apex Legends is officially coming to Steam when Season 7 launches on November 4, 2020. If you play on Steam and you’re new to Apex Legends, we can’t wait to welcome you aboard. And if you’ve previously been playing on Origin, feel free to give it a spin on Steam – all your account progression and unlocks will carry over between the two platforms.”
Four months ago, Respawn officially announced that Apex Legends would be coming to Steam in ‘Fall 2020‘. However, the studio has been hesitant to confirm a release date since then. Fortunately, Steam users won’t have to wait much longer to finally get access to the game, now that the date has been announced. Today’s announcement also confirms that the game will feature cross-progression, at least with the Origin version of the game.
Presumably, the Steam version of Apex Legends will also feature full cross-play, although this hasn’t been explicitly confirmed by Respawn. Cross-play first launched in Beta form in Apex Legends earlier this month, alongside the Aftermarket Collection event. That beta featured cross-play between PS4, Xbox One, and Origin for PC. However, at the time, Respawn indicated that more details on cross-progression (a feature which wasn’t available in the beta) would be announced around the same time that the game launched on Steam. Presumably, that means that fans can expect more concrete details on cross-progression to emerge in the next week or so.
