We are now four days into the Apex Legends Grand Soirée event, and with a new game mode arriving every two, that means that fans can expect an all-new mode to launch tomorrow. In this case, that mode will be the highly-anticipated Apex Legends Third-Person Mode; the first chance that players have ever gotten to play Apex Legends in third-person. Unfortunately, the mode will only be available for two days.
The Apex Legends Third-Person Mode in the Grand Soirée
The new Apex Legends Third-Person Mode will only be available from tomorrow, the 18th of January, through to the end of the 19th. After that, it will be replaced by the ‘Always be Closing’ game mode. Third-person mode is the third new game mode to feature as part of the Grand Soirée event, following on from Gold Rush Duos and LIVE.DIE.LIVE. While the first of those changed the loot which players found around the map, and the second changed the game’s respawn mechanics, this third mode offers a purely perspective-based change.
The only difference between a normal match of Apex Legends and third-person mode is, of course, that players will see themselves in the third person instead of the first. There aren’t any other unusual tweaks or additions beyond that. Some fans have long been hoping for a third-person perspective to come to Apex Legends; after all, third-person is relatively common in other games, including battle royale titan Fortnite. While this mode will only be available for two days, it’s currently unknown what Respawn’s plans are for after the end of Grand Soirée.
It does seem unusual that all seven of these new modes would only be available for two days and then never return. In all likelihood, this event may actually be a means for Respawn to test out new things, and gauge the audience’s response to them. Those modes which enjoy a positive reception may well return in some form or another in the future, perhaps on a more long-term basis. Fans will have to wait and see.
