Following the launch by Respawn of the Apex Legends Voidwalker Event, and the release of a new cinematic short, the studio has now released a short trailer for the event itself. The trailer mirrors that released for the Iron Crown Collection Event; offering fans a few short in-game glimpses of the new map features and cosmetics, as well as the new limited-time game mode. Although the Voidwalker cinematic was impressive, it was, after all, a character short, not a trailer.
The New Apex Legends Voidwalker Event Trailer
The Apex Legends Voidwalker Event went live in the game earlier this week and will span the next two weeks. Like the Iron Crown event, it features a “town takeover” by one of the Legends; in this case, Wraith. Town takeovers, which began with Octane’s stunt course in the Iron Crown event, are permanent additions to the map which last beyond the end of the event. In this case, the takeover adds Singh Labs to the map; a new subterranean laboratory which lies in ruins. There is also a functional portal with two entrances; one in the lab, and one in the sky. Players sky-dropping into the map can use this portal to jump directly into the lab. However, players on the ground can actually enter the portal and emerge in the sky. This lets players sky-drop once again back onto the map.
Alongside the town takeover, the Voidwalker event features a new limited-time game mode which features only sniper rifles and shotguns. There are also a variety of new cosmetics. Some of these are available to purchase in a direct-purchase shop, while others are available through Apex Packs, and even more are available as rewards for completing certain in-game challenges. Most of the latter are minor cosmetics and items for Wraith, such as a Wraith-themed music track.
Thus far, it seems that the Voidwalker event has gotten a better reception from fans than the Iron Crown, although to be fair, that isn’t exactly hard. The Iron Crown event, although commercially successful, was a PR disaster due to Respawn’s handling of cosmetics. Fortunately, the system for acquiring cosmetics in Voidwalker seems to have been altered appropriately so as not to breach the company’s past pledges and infuriate players.
