GTA V already has the title of ‘most successful entertainment property of all time,’ and the game still shows no signs of fading with the years. Rockstar’s enormously successful game has consistently scored highly on best-selling lists, even years after launch. Now, GTA V is back again; jumping to the top of the best-selling list for all PS4 games in April of 2020!
GTA V was the Best-Selling PS4 Game in April
GTA V has once again reclaimed the top spot on a best-selling list. Despite launching all the way back in 2013, almost seven years ago, the game is still going incredibly strong. Sony’s latest monthly sales report lists GTA V as the best-selling PS4 game in the month of April, most likely buoyed by recent sales during the COVID lockdown. The game beat out FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which took the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively. The highest-placing new release was the Final Fantasy VII Remake, which managed to reach #4.
While GTA V did dominate in overall sales, April was also a very good month for Call of Duty. While Modern Warfare managed to reach the #3 spot for best-selling PS4 games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered also managed to place highly, coming in at #6. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Warzone actually topped the Free-to-Play listing, which is tracked separately. Fortnite and Apex Legends came in at #2 and #3 respectively; showing that Warzone is still enjoying its dominance of the free-to-play battle royale market. (Although it remains to be seen if it will manage to retain its current player-base over time.)
April 2020 saw a resurgence for a range of highly-rated PS4 titles. As many gamers are currently under lockdown or in quarantine, both sales and engagement have spiked for most major gaming services. In Sony’s case, it seems that gamers are taking the opportunity to check out some of the PS4’s best titles of the last few years. Marvel’s Spider-Man was the best-selling of these, ranking at #11 in April. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey took #13, one place ahead of Days Gone, while Red Dead Redemption 2 took the #16 spot.
