Artist Unveils Witcher Fan Art Inspired by Animated Films

Fan art for video games is certainly nothing new. Indeed, the Witcher series is so beloved that it has amassed quite a lot of fan art. (Not to mention that it has been out for years now). However, one artist recently released some Witcher fan art which really stood out from the crowd. Rather than use a traditional format, their re-imagining of Geralt of Rivia was based on several animated films.

The Animated Style Fits Geralt of Rivia Surprisingly Well

Urrutia’s Witcher Fan Art of Geralt of Rivia

This new Witcher fan art was the work of Julien Urrutia, who posted the artwork in full on ArtStation. It consists of a glorious series of 3D renders and work-in-progress sketches. Altogether they present a very unique take on the protagonist of the Witcher series. Urrutia explained on the post why he had chosen to use lesser-known arms and armor. “This in particular is my take on Witcher III’s Geralt,” he explained; “but instead of making him wear the official armor I thought fans would prefer to see some other armor from the game. I also asked a friend of mine to choose the sword.”

Urrutia went on to explain what had inspired the stylized design; “I was trying to have Brave and How to Train Your Dragon as inspirations for texture quality and realism,” he stated; “but also design him as a sharp character that could fit into a darker animation without losing appeal.”

Urrutia's Work Presents Several Different Versions of the Rendering

Urrutia has certainly succeeded in accomplishing what he was aiming for. While significantly different from his normal depictions, the animated look is still undeniably Geralt of Rivia. Indeed, it begs the question what more of the Witcher series would look like if it had been imagined in this unique fashion. According to Urrutia, the impressive work took several months to complete. The artist stated that fans could expect to see more of its kind in the future.
