ASCII DOOM Is Way Better Than The Regular DOOM

DOOM seems to inspire all sorts of modders. Now, they have even accessed the oldest digital art ever invented to provide you with a new mod. 1337d00m is combining the ASCII art and Doom itself, and the outcome is brilliant and very playable in spite of how unlikely that seems.

The American Standard Code for Information Interchange or simply “ASCII” is a code that represents text in computers and many other devices. Many modern character-coding schemes are based on this code. It was first published in 1963 and was worked on for three years.

1337d00m is a new Doom mod that combines the ASCII code with the original Doom video game. At the minimal difficulty, it feels like the original title with slight changes. However, at high difficulty, its letters are an unhelpful size, and you will not be able to see much of it. That is the only problem with this mod, stemming from the fact that the difficulty of the game controls the size of the text used to create the illusion.

Nevertheless, 1337d00m is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to play the original DOOM game with some minor changes. You can challenge yourself to pick the impossible mode and see if you can survive it. On the other hand, for those of you who prefer the easy road, you can try the easy difficulty. The choice is presented when the game opens with a slider that moves from easy to impossible. If you move the slider, you will see what the differences between the two independent difficulties are.

While you are waiting for the full showcase of the next DOOM title, you can spend your time trying the many DOOM mods that exist out there. 1337d00m is by far the most unique and weird one, and you might get to complete it at the high difficulty as well.
