What is E3 2019 without the huge publisher stages and the chilling trailers? Nothing would be the same, without all the new announcements that everyone is waiting for each year. Unfortunately though, one of the biggest companies in the industry will be missing from next year’s conference. Sony decided to skip E3 2019 and there’s a rather vague reason for that.
Undeniably, this announcement caught us off guard. Back when Sony announced that they won’t be hosting Playstation Experience this year, we thought that this is a way to hype things up until E3 2019. However, this is not the case.
According to Game Informer, Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking for new ways to interact with the community.
Sony has stated:
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
This makes us wonder. Will Sony take the stage in their own special conference next year, or are they remaining silence for the rest of 2019. Microsoft has hosted the E3 event from their own venue last year, under the E3 program. We didn’t expect Sony to miss E3 2019 so openly, after a not-so-successful E3 2018 stage.
Let’s hope that Sony has something huge in store for us and isn’t out of ideas for a new show. Microsoft has started the years strong with E3 and XO18 and with the addition of more studios, the future looks promising.
There are still many things we are waiting to see from Sony, like Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us 2 and Final Fantasy 7. We wonder, will we see them soon at some other show? Let’s say… The Game Awards?
