Battlefield 1 Available for Free on Xbox Games for Gold

The release date of Battlefield 5 is drawing ever closer. However, a new opportunity for Xbox gamers concerning the last entry in the series is now available; Battlefield 1 is currently available for free download through the Games for Gold service. For fans of the series who never played the title, or new fans looking to get into the series ahead of the launch of Battlefield 5, this could be an excellent opportunity.

How to Download Battlefield 1 for Free on Xbox

As part of “The Road to Battlefield 5,” a long-term marketing and promotional campaign run by EA, the company has offered the various DLC packs for Battlefield 1 for free through a series of giveaways. Unfortunately, those offers have now ended. However, if you’re interested in picking up Battlefield 1 itself, the game is now available completely free of charge, provided you have an Xbox Live Gold account; giving you access to the Games for Gold service.

Battlefield 1 Can be Downloaded for Free Through Games for Gold

In addition to being a successful multiplayer title with four separate DLC packs; Battlefield 1 was also the first game in the series to feature a “War Stories,” single-player campaign. Indeed, the campaign format inspired the campaign in Battlefield 5. Spanning five different stories and a prologue, the campaign tells tales from the different theatres of battle during the First World War. These range from flying missions for the Royal Flying Corps to fierce urban combat against Ottoman troops in Gallipoli.

Battlefield 1 will remain free through Games for Gold for the entirety of November. With Battlefield 5 set to launch on the 20th of November, this is hardly a surprising move for EA. Indeed, Activision did much the same thing last month with the launch of their Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC. Making the game free is likely to bring new people to the series as well as drawing long-term fans back; ready to get hooked on the game and thus become more likely to buy Battlefield 5.
