Coming one day after the dates for the Battlefield 2042 Open Beta were leaked online, DICE has today officially announced details and dates for the upcoming event, revealing that it will be taking place in early October. The event will be divided between an Early Access and public phase, between the 6th and 9th of October.
The Upcoming Battlefield 2042 Open Beta
Following today’s announcement, we now know that the Beta dates which were recently leaked on Chinese website Bilibili, were indeed accurate. In fact, DICE may well have chosen to announce the Open Beta today because the dates had just been leaked, rather than closer to the time. Whatever the case, the Battlefield 2042 Open Beta is due to begin in just over one week’s time, on the 6th of October.
Initially, on the 6th and 7th, the Open Beta will only be available to those gamers who have Early Access. (Players can gain Battlefield 2042 Early Access by pre-ordering the game or through having an EA Play subscription.) The latter two days of the Open Beta, on the 8th and 9th, will be open to the general public on all platforms. DICE has confirmed that gamers will be able to pre-load the Battlefield 2042 Open Beta from the 5th of October. (06:00 UTC for PC, 07:00 UTC for consoles.) Gamers should note that, unlike the recent Call of Duty: Vanguard Beta, there are no platform-specific advantages in this event. PlayStation users will not get earlier access, for instance.
While the Beta is relatively short, there is a risk that lasting longer could result in its gameplay becoming stale. This is because only one mode and one map will be available to play. These will be the classic Conquest mode on the new map “Orbital”. Four of the game’s Specialists will be playable during the Open Beta; Maria Falck, Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, Webster Mackay, and Wikus “Casper” van Daele.
