DICE recently released the second in their series of Battlefield 5 Dev Talks. The video, which covers numerous topics related to the upcoming title, also lent support to a recent fan theory; some aircraft in Battlefield 5 will actually appear on the maps, rather than merely spawning in the air.
Battlefield 5 Aircraft Can Appear at Airfields
Recently, DICE revealed a topographical map of the Hamada game map; one of Battlefield 5’s largest maps. Several fans online spotted what appears to be an airfield on that map, prompting theories that aircraft might be available there. The latest Dev Talk confirms that it certainly is an airfield which appears in Hamada, and moreover, that aircraft will spawn there for players to use. There are a couple of caveats, however. Speaking about the airfield on Twitter, Battlefield 5’s Multiplayer Producer, David Sirland, says; “Much like BF2 – you fly through the airfield to resupply. There is a spawn on ground for planes at that airfield in certain modes.”
Indeed. It's not necessary in BFV. Much like BF2 – you fly through the airfield to resupply. And there is a spawn on ground for planes at that airfield in certain modes (this might change)

So, aircraft won’t spawn on the map in every mode, only in some. It’s currently unknown which modes will feature aircraft in this manner. The second caveat is that this feature “might change”. Hopefully, this is too major a feature for it to be totally cut before release. Certainly, aircraft take-offs were briefly shown during the most recent Dev Talk; showcasing the animation time which must have gone into their design.
In DICE’s most recent titles, aircraft have not appeared on the maps. Instead, players who gain access to aircraft simply spawn at the edge of the map, already in the vehicle and already in flight. Aircraft have not featured on the map for quite some time. The return of that feature would certainly introduce some old elements to Battlefield 5 as players scramble for control of the airfields. (Not to mention squabble over the aircraft themselves!)
