DICE is currently making their final tweaks and alterations to Battlefield 5 before the game’s launch in November. In preparation for that launch date, the studio has now released a complete list of every weapon, vehicle, etc. which will be in the game upon release. Among that list are the 7 Battlefield 5 bolt-action rifles and self-loading rifles; the weapons which are available to the Recon class.
All Battlefield 5 Bolt-Action Rifles Featuring at Launch
“Bolt-Action Rifles serve as the sniper rifles of the game.” says DICE; “Their rate of fire is low, but they will take out an enemy with one headshot”. Bolt-action rifles are the default firearm of the Recon class. They are also one of the only long-range weapon categories in the game. The full list of Battlefield 5 bolt-action rifles is as follows, though more will likely be added in post-launch content:
- Gewehr M95/30: “This rifle’s origins date back to the late 19th century and saw heavy use in World War 1 by the Austro-Hungarian Army”. The Gewehr M95/30 is the only bolt-action rifle which also featured in Battlefield 1.
- Krag-Jörgensen: “A rifle dating back to the late 19th century, with a special type of integral magazine which loaded from the side rather than the top”. This gun may be the oldest primary weapon to feature in Battlefield 5; it was developed in 1886. During the German occupation of Norway in WWII, the Germans demanded large numbers from Norwegian manufacturers.
- Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I: “Very fast firing sniper rifle. Its bullet is significantly slower than that of the Kar98k, making it preferable for medium range.”
- Kar98k: “The most common bolt-action rifle in the German army”; The Kar98k was actually the main service weapon of the Germany army throughout WWII.
All Battlefield 5 Self-Loading Rifles Featuring at Launch
Self-loading rifles are the alternate firearm category for the Recon class. On average, self-loading rifles are more akin to semi-automatic rifles than bolt-action rifles. However, they tend to be better at long-range; “The Self-Loading Rifles are mechanically similar [to Semi-Automatic Rifles];” explains DICE; “they have a lower rate of fire, but higher damage per shot and a much smaller magazine capacity”. The full list of self-loading rifles is as follows:
- Model 8: “Created in 1900. US hunters and some police units would use it, but it was never formally adopted by the US Army”. The Model 8 is one of seven guns in Battlefield 5 which featured in Battlefield 1.
- ZH-29: “A hard-hitting self-loading rifle that can kill with only two hits.”
- RSC: “By repurposing parts from the Lebel rifle it was designed to replace, the RSC was cheaper to produce for the French army, though there were complaints that it was unwieldy in the trenches.”
