Overture, the first chapter of the Battlefield 5 Tides of War post-launch calendar launched yesterday. While most of the core content is now available, one aspect of Overture will play out over the coming weeks. Namely, these are the Chapter Events. Each Battlefield 5 Chapter Event is a week-long set of challenges with their own progression system and rewards. The first of these is Attrition and Fortifications, which begins today on the 6th of December and will conclude on the 12th of December.
What is a Battlefield 5 Chapter Event?
Each chapter of the Tides of War is divided into weekly Chapter Events. These events each have a theme and unique reward, with a selection of challenges for players to complete. Each Chapter Event has a progression tree which resembles those on the game’s weapons, vehicles, and so on, allowing you to choose different sets of challenges to complete to make your way to the event reward.
Note that Chapter Event progression is separate to your Chapter Rank. This is a level-up progression system which rewards you the more you play Battlefield 5 during a Tides of War chapter. Chapter Rank-ups will grant you item rewards unique to the chapter, but these are separate to the Chapter Event rewards. Note that if you miss a weekly Chapter Event reward item, there will be ways to acquire these items through other means at a later date.
How to Complete Attrition and Fortifications
The event reward for Attrition and Fortifications is the VGO Medium Machine Gun. This was a machine gun designed to be used by aircraft, but was later used as a man-portable infantry weapon. To attain it, you’ll need to complete one of the possible event objective paths. Firstly, you must complete Self-Healing. After that, you can progress with either the Healer, Re-Engage, or Need Ammo objective. Healer leads to Health Crate, Re-Engage leads to Break It, and Need Ammo leads to Ammo Crate. Completing any of these will lead to Fortify Defences, and then you must complete Hold the Fort.
- Self-Healing: To complete the first Attrition and Fortifications objective, you need to restore your own health using Bandages 10 times. This should be a relatively quick one to complete; you have one Bandage each time you spawn in a game, and you can get more from Medic players and Medical Supply Stations.
- Healer: To complete the Healer objective, you must supply your teammates with Bandages 20 times. This will require you to play as a Medic.
- Re-Engage: To complete this objective, you must resupply your Bandages or ammo at a Supply Station 10 times. This can be done as any class, if you don’t want to play as a Medic or Support for one of the other objective paths.
- Need Ammo: Like Healer, to complete this objective you need to supply your teammates with Ammo Pouches 10 times. Obviously, you’ll need to be playing as a Support for this objective.
- Health Crate: Once you complete Healer, you can work on this objective, which requires you to heal your teammates for 400 health points with Medical Crates. Note that you’ll need to play a Medic with the Medical Crate gadget.
- Break It: After completing Re-Engage, you can work on Break It by destroying 10 Fortifications. This will require you to be fighting on the frontlines, but can be completed with any soldier class.
- Ammo Crate: After you finish the Need Ammo objective, you can complete Ammo Crate by supplying ammo to 12 teammates with an Ammo Crate. Just like with the Health Crate objective, you’ll need to be playing a Support soldier with the Ammo Crate gadget.
- Fortify Defences: After you complete either Health Crate, Break It, or Ammo Crate, you must complete this objective. This requires you to build 10 Fortifications in objective areas controlled by friendly forces. It doesn’t matter what the Fortification is; any and all will count towards the objective.
- Snögubbe: This optional objective isn’t required to complete Attrition and Fortifications, but can be done if you wish nonetheless. It requires you to build the “Snowman” Fortification on the game’s Narvik map.
- Hold the Fort: After completing Fortify Defences, you must finish Hold the Fort to earn the VGO Medium Machine Gun. This will once again require you to build and maintain Fortifications, making Support the best choice.
