There are three new game modes coming to Battlefield 5 during the Lightning Strikes chapter of Tides of War; Squad Conquest, Combined Arms, and Rush. While Combined Arms will be a major and permanent addition, it turns out that the other two will only be available for two weeks each, as part of two of the five Chapter events. Squad Conquest is available now and will remain so until the 30th of January. Rush, on the other hand, will be coming in the final two weeks of Lightning Strikes. There is a reason why these modes are only available for such a limited window, however.
DICE’s Plans for the Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest and Rush Game Modes
Leading up to the release of Lightning Strikes, both Squad Conquest and Rush were featured in marketing materials and the like. However, unlike Combined Arms, Battlefield 5 players will only be able to try out the two modes for a couple of weeks. After that, the modes will be taken down. According to DICE, the reason for this is because they want to gauge player feedback towards both modes.
“Battlefield 5 is constantly being evolved and defined through community feedback,” they explain; “We want to see how you react to Rush and Squad Conquest before making them a permanent addition. If you enjoy the modes, we will look at bringing them back.”
Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest is the first of these modes to become available; the mode launched two days ago as the focus of the ‘A Few Good Soldiers’ event. It will be the focus of two Weekly Challenges, featuring two new weapons as rewards. The mode is currently available to play, and works as a miniature form of Conquest; two teams of eight players fighting over three objectives on a smaller version of a standard map. There are three map variants currently available for the mode; Arras, Hamada, and Rotterdam. The Rush mode will be available for two weeks during the final event of Lightning Strikes; you can find out when you’ll be able to play it here.
