Battlefield 5 players need only wait another three days before they get their next free content release; Lightning Strikes, chapter 2 of Tides of War. Among the three new game modes coming as part of Lightning Strikes, Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest is the first, and DICE has now revealed that the mode will only be available for a limited time.
When You’ll be Able to Play Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest
Essentially, Squad Conquest is the standard Battlefield 5 Conquest mode in miniature. Rather than teams of 32 facing off across the game’s maps, Squad Conquest instead pits two teams of 8 against one another; just two squads apiece. The mode will be available to play as soon as Lightning Strikes launches on the 17th of January. However, it will only be available for the rest of the month, and will be going away again on the 30th of January. As such, players interested in the mode will need to make sure they take advantage now while it’s still available.
It’s unclear exactly why DICE is only making the mode available for two weeks. However, this could be a test of sorts to see whether players like it. If it performs well in those two weeks, fans may see it return on a longer-term basis at some point in the future. For now, the mode appears to be filling time until the release of Combined Arms in February.
When it launches, the Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest mode will only be available on three of the game’s maps; Arras, Rotterdam, and Hamada. However, in each case the action will only be taking place on a small sub-section of the map. This is really a necessity given that matches will feature just one-quarter of the normal number of players in a Conquest match. Functionally, the game mode works much like Conquest, with players competing to hold 3 flags and deplete the enemy team’s Respawn Tickets. However, DICE is hoping that the smaller numbers and tighter quarters could encourage more tactical play.
