DICE recently launched Wake Island as a new map in Battlefield 5 – the latest iteration of a true series classic. While the map is a welcome inclusion for most franchise veterans, it seems that DICE saw fit to sneak in an Easter egg or two, adding further reference to the original map, as well as paying tribute to their loyal community of fans. Finding the Battlefield 5 Easter egg isn’t as fiendishly complex as some have been in the past, and it involves crabs…
The Battlefield 5 Wake Island Easter Egg
When you first spawn into the Battlefield 5 Wake Island map, if you want to find this Easter egg, you’ll need to head for Objective D. Near that point, you’ll find a memorial plaque on a raised stone dais, which thanks players for returning to Wake Island. This is where the Easter egg will activate, but first, you need to herd some crabs. Five crabs can be found around Wake Island which burrow down into the sand when you get close. (For a walkthrough of where to find these, and how to do the other steps, click here.) You need to trigger all of these crabs to burrow away, at which point they’ll reappear at the plaque.
When you return to the plaque, you’ll find a pair of headphones, which you can pick up. Now you need to head to a bunker which is near D, where you’ll find a communications area. If you wait here, you should hear Morse code, which is actually coordinates for a spot on Wake Island in the real world. Simply look up the spot online and use that to guide you to the same spot on the in-game map.
When you arrive, look around for a vinyl record, which you need to collect and return to the plaque. There, you’ll find a gramophone, which you can activate to play the original Battlefield 1942 theme. However, you still aren’t done. You now need to repeat this entire process; listening for coordinates and finding records, until you retrieve a final record and the plaque is surrounded by crabs. Play that last record and it will trigger a veritable dance party among the crabs, complete with jets of flame.
