Battlefield 5 Wake Island Map Coming in One Week’s Time

When DICE launched Battlefield 5 War in the Pacific, the expansion brought two new maps to the game; Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm. Now, in one week’s time, the studio will be adding the classic Battlefield Wake Island map, a modern remake of the very first Battlefield map ever released. Earlier today, DICE released a map overview trailer for this new map, giving fans a glimpse of what they can expect.

The Upcoming Battlefield 5 Wake Island Map

The Battlefield 5 Wake Island map is coming to the game on the 12th of December, in just under one week’s time. As the trailer states, this is a total remake of an old classic, twice the size of the Battlefield 1942 version and much more varied. As you would expect, this map features everything to be found in Battlefield; infantry, boats, aircraft, and land vehicles. (And indeed, even new amphibious tanks.) The map is somewhere in the middle when it comes to the size of the different Battlefield 5 maps, with a tempo largely dictated by game modes. Expect fast-paced, frenetic gameplay on Breakthrough, for example, but a slower fight in Conquest.

All told, the map features 7 different objective areas dotted around the horseshoe-shaped island. These include plenty of fortifications, including AA guns, and trenches to protect from sniper fire. The first flag is at the northern tip of the island, and gameplay proceeds clockwise around the horseshoe, with the final flag at the docks at the other end. In Breakthrough, the attackers will have access to tanks straight away, while the defenders will have to make do on foot or using lighter vehicles.

Battlefield 5 Wake Island Map War in the Pacific Trailer

Wake Island’s shape, of course, makes it ideal for boats, several of which were added in War in the Pacific. Expect boats to play a big role in redeployment, although many of the game’s boats do leave its occupants exposed, so redeploying across the bay could be risky. For now, fans will have to wait a few days longer before they can try the map for themselves when it releases on the 12th of December.
